Kronos the hungry kingsnake has been adopted! 🐍♥️🥰

Some people are suggesting that Kronos the kingsnake was eating himself because he was stressed, which we want to address.

Typhon (snake worship, worship of or including reptiles) semi-sextile Moon (feeding), quintile Mars (aggressive eaters whose appetites were stronger than their good judgement), opposite Uranus (unexpected).

A quick google search may suggest this behavior could be connected to stress, and naturally it's not a behavior you'd hope to see in your pets or in the wild. But in our experience, we are aware of several cases like this, where the snakes were happy and healthy, but also aggressive eaters whose appetites were stronger than their good judgement.

We want to point out that this snake showed no signs of stress, had plenty of access to food and water and burrowing material and a hiding cave and appropriate temps, just like all our snakes. Rough markings on his scales indicate past damage from digestive enzymes, suggesting that he had swallowed himself in previous years, so it's probably a bad habit of his. According to his history form, he had a habit of being an aggressive eater (which is not consistent with stressed snakes) and had been observed many times biting himself over the years, even though he came from a great caring home and showed all the signs of a happy, healthy snake (climbing, burrowing, hiding, eating, basking...). Some times animals do silly things, like dogs chasing their own tails, or in rarer cases, snakes swallowing their own tails. Kronos the kingsnake appeared to have that odd occasional habit, although the rest of his behavior was happy and healthy, including climbing, burrowing, hiding, eating, drinking, and other popular forms of snake recreation and relaxation.

We love educating the world about unique animal behaviors, but we also want to assure the world that this snake was well cared for and healthy. And even if he wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box, we still love him :-)
