Idle tour buses turned into giant maze in Tokyo

One of Japan's biggest sightseeing bus companies has made a gigantic maze out of 60 buses at the company's Tokyo Station car park to entertain guests, since most of Hato Bus vehicles are sitting idly due to the lack of tourists amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As seen on Saturday, guests have the chance to go through the maze during the long weekend as part of a special tour package which includes a trip to the recently opened Small Worlds Tokyo miniature theme park.

"Due to the influence of coronavirus, there have been days when the buses are almost inactive, but in this time we wondered if we could make good use of those inactive buses," said Yusei Ishikawa, director of Hato Bus Company.

A guest was surprised that the 3.8 metre-tall (12.4 feet) buses "can be parked so narrowly," and gave a shout-out to the drivers. Tickets for the tour are sold at a price of ¥4,980 (€40/$47).

Hato Bus is also offering a "ventilation demonstration" to show that buses are a safe enclosed space, as seen in the footage.

Due to the pandemic, the company's tours came to a standstill for several months, slowly resuming operations in June.
