European Tree of the Year competition excludes Russia's 198-year-old Turgenev oak

The European Tree of the Year competition has decided to exclude Russia’s 198-year-old Turgenev oak from this year’s contest, citing the ongoing fighting in Ukraine.

    In Greek mythology, Nessus was a famous centaur who was killed by Heracles, and whose poisoned blood in turn killed Heracles. Heracles died a noble death on a funeral pyre of oak branches.
