More Than Meets the Eye: Junkyard Transformer raises awareness about recycling in Mar del Plata

A huge model of a Transformer robot, built entirely from scrap metal, has appeared in a junkyard near Mar del Plata to raise awareness about the importance of recycling, as seen in footage filmed on Wednesday.

Mercury (resourceful, educational (kids come to interact with Transformer and also with recycling so they know that everything they use remains on Earth)) trine Mars (initiative, iron) square Pluto (transmutation, transforming or recycling of energy (built entirely from scrap metal, has appeared in a junkyard)) square Amycus (any mechanical device that enables a shift in energy, for instance a clutch for shifting gears, monuments (Optimus Prime has caught the attention of the local community, with the media, politicians and members of the public all wanting to get to know the area’s newest resident)).

"It is about six meters tall, and it weighs approximately 3 tonnes," said the site’s owner, Fernando Ale. "All its parts are made of recycled pieces. … What you can notice on the chest is the trunk of a Citroen Ami 8, which was a very traditional old car from Argentina."

Footage shows the figure, built to resemble 'Optimus Prime', the leader of the Autobots in the famous children’s cartoon, film series and toy range.

"We came up with the idea of creating a recycling square, where the kids come to interact with Transformer and also with recycling," continued Ale. "So they [children] know that everything they use remains on Earth, that the place where they live is where all that garbage remains."

Ale’s family has been in the recycling business for 70 years. He says his dad got the idea for the robot after seeing scrap metal dinosaurs in the town of Tandil.

When Tandil’s metallurgical plant closed, a group of blacksmiths built the Transformer there from many of the spare parts. It took four months and was exhibited in the town, before being moved 170km to the coas

t. "I brought my son to see it, it is impressive what they brought so that the children can see it in the neighbourhood," said one resident Diego Alejandro Aguirre."it can be seen from several blocks."
