Worshippers in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari practice a bizarre ritual every year in which priests and witch doctors walk over the backs of women to bless them with children.
Jupiter (ritual and ceremony) quincunx Haumea (fertility, childbirth and sisterhood).
Over 500 childless women nurturing a desire to be a mother were seen lying on their stomachs as tribal priests trampled over their backs in footage filmed on Friday, chanting mantras and holding flags as spectators watched the ritual, which is held on the first Friday after Diwali. Raising no objection to the practice, thousands of people reached the temple and bore witness to the 'Madai Fair'.
The ceremony is performed at the temple of Goddess Angaarmoti about 90km (56 miles) from Raipur and is believed to be taking place for the past 500 years.
