In a remarkable turn of
events, the Argentinian town of Miramar has reemerged from beneath the
waters that flooded it in the 1970s.
Sun (conscious attention) conjunct Gonggong (floods, flood control (the town was submerged when a
nearby river burst its banks and inundated the area)) sextile Ixion (study of weather (our lagoon behaves as
the climate behaves globally)).
The town, located in the northeastern province of Cordoba, was submerged
when a nearby river burst its banks and inundated the area. Now, after
decades underwater, the town has resurfaced due to the severe drought
affecting the country, as footage filmed on Thursday shows.
According to historian Mariana Zapata, Miramar had been considered the prime tourist destination in the province of Cordoba. It had been noted for its abundance of tourist accommodations, including 110 hotels, lodgings, and inns, along with a three-kilometer shoreline and freshwater pools. The town had been able to accommodate up to 70,000 tourists per season and had several entertainment venues.
The reappearance of Miramar de Ansenuza is a stark reminder of the
effects of climate change on the planet, experts say.
"Our lagoon behaves as the climate behaves globally. That is why it is a
witness to climate change; it is a thermometer for having been the
place that most detected climate change on a planetary level during the
1970s," Anabela Caffer, guide to the Natural Sciences Museum of the Mar
Chiquita Lagoon explained.
The reemergence of Miramar is just one of the many consequences of the severe drought that has hit Argentina in recent years. The country has experienced record low rainfall, leading to water shortages, crop failures, and wildfires.
