A group of professional acrobats donned 'Spider-Man' outfits and abseiled down from the roof of Milan’s De Marchi Paediatric Clinic on Thursday, delivering Easter baskets filled with chocolate eggs to the child patients inside.
Mercury (agile (professional acrobats)) sextile & Mars (initiative) trine Gonggong (super heros (footage shows half a dozen ‘Spider-Men’ being lowered down the facade of the building with ropes and mountaineering harnesses)).
The initiative was created during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic by the De Marchi Foundation. It was devised as a fun way to bring Easter joy to child patients while also adhering to the strict social distancing rules at the time.
"The initiative was born during COVID when we could not enter the wards to deliver Easter eggs directly to the children. In order not to interrupt the tradition we, therefore, decided to enter through the windows,” said Francesco Iandola, Director of the De Marchi Foundation.
“We asked a specialised acrobatic company to help us and today its staff will descend from the roofs transformed into Spider-Man and deliver the De Marchi Foundation egg to each child," he added.
Footage shows half a dozen ‘Spider-Men’ being lowered down the facade of the building with ropes and mountaineering harnesses, stopping at each window to hand over the tasty Easter treats to the delighted children inside. Doctors say the superhero-themed scheme is a great way to capture the children’s imagination and mitigate some of the trauma associated with long hospital stays.
These initiatives are essential to make the hospitalisation experience as less traumatic as possible and recreate a child-friendly environment," a doctor at the De Marchi Foundation said. "It is essential to reproduce the child's playful world to make the impact of hospitalisation less invasive for the child but also for the family," he added.
