Nigeria: 'A way of appreciating our gods' - Thousands of worshippers attend Osun-Osogbo water festival

Thousands of Nigerian worshippers and tourists attended the annual Osun-Osogbo water festival, to pray to Yoruba, the goddess of fertility.

Footage filmed outside the Nigeria's city of Osogbo, on Friday, shows colourful celebrations with worshippers dancing while playing drums and later praying around the river. "Osun Oshogbo festival is a way of appreciating our gods because the gods bless us beyond measure.

The gods didn't allow war to take over our land many decades ago, during the Dahomey war," said festival attendee Osundara Oyawale. The Osun-Osogbo Festival is a traditional celebration that has an estimated 600 years of history. 

According to media reports, on the same day violent clashes broke out between rival cult groups during the Osun-Osogbo Festival leaving at least three dead.
